  since the newsreleases of last week, i'm currently in a hugh email discussion with a jw friend of mine.

  i asked him if it was true that jw's shun.

  he sent all sorts of scriptural backup along with what looks like jw written material on shunning.

  Thanks for the good amunition dungbeetle. Also, the argument that Jesus 'did away' with fasting doesn't seem to fly. Fasting is found throughout the New Testament. Below is just two NT scriptures on fasting:

  Matthew 17
  20 So Jesus said to them, "Because of your unbelief;[1] for assuredly, I say to you, if you have faith as a mustard seed, you will say to this mountain, "Move from here to there,' and it will move; and nothing will be impossible for you. 21However, this kind does not go out except by prayer and fasting."

  1 Corinthians 7
  5 Do not deprive one another except with consent for a time, that you may give yourselves to fasting and prayer; and come together again so that Satan does not tempt you because of your lack of self-control.

  I just find it odd that JW's don't adher to fasting since they seem to pick up on some really obsure things (and ignore others). I want to point out that there are inconsistencies in applying the scriptures. (The JW's shunning argument really iritates me!)

  Since the newsreleases of last week, I'm currently in a hugh email discussion with a JW friend of mine. I asked him if it was true that JW's shun. He sent all sorts of scriptural backup along with what looks like JW written material on shunning. It seems like the 'shunning scriptures' are taken too literal. I want to point out beliefs that are in the bible, but that the JW's don't practice so I can counter that not all things from the bible are applied. The bible mentions to fast and pray. Do the JW's fast as a part of a religious practice, and if not, why? (playing the Devil's advocate).

  Is this a good arguement, or are there better? Thanks.

  the kids and i stayed downstairs so she could have some quiet.

  now i know what that "disbelieving husband" felt like when we would pop in to study with some sister or sister-to-be.

  Hear Hear, sounds like the Mormans I know, very likeable people. I may not agree with some points of religious doctrine, but then again, not everyone agrees with my beliefs.

  It's funny how people will 'label' other people with insideous characteristics and not even know them. It's like the JW's 'demonizing' the 'apostates' that frequent this board. It's so far off from reality, yet you couldn't change their minds, because they "know" the source they heard it from it true - yet the real TRUTH is this board is full of a variety of people, some highly spiritual, some very outspoken, but all, for the most part articulate and intelligent free thinkers.

  Gads! It's like the person was hypnotized spueing the same old drivel. It's like my JW friend...they always direct the conversation - it's always onesided...where they talk past me, and not at me. drives you NUTS!

  ok peeps, i just got a phone call from the sister i've been studying with.

  we're getting together next tues (i've been working overtime, so i haven't had any contact since i started posting on here.

  ) i'm soooo nervous, i just know she's going to try to talk me out of quitting.

  oh sure larc, go the sensible route! You're no fun.

  (However, larc has a point....when you do say to someone "I have made my decision" there's really nothing anyone can say to keep the ball rolling.)

  how about putting her on the defensive with pointed questions like:

  Have you ever had doubts about the your faith? Have you ever wanted to just leave? Does the never ending pressure to serve get to you?
  Do you really think celebrating birthday's is bad? Don't you ever wish that you could have a Very Merry Christmas? - I know I would miss it...YEAH, THAT'S IT.

  TELL HER YOU WOULD MISS CELEBRATING THE BIRTH OF CHRIST! What can she say?

  I had another Weird Dream

  alright now this dream was krazy .

  i was walking somewhere(cant remember) and this guy hit me over the head with this shotgun, i was knocked out and he tied me up, and i woke up in this car in the backseat, and it was a bomb in the car.

  the bomb had 7-9 min left, and get this at first i was so scared, the dream seem so real, but for some reason i could'nt wake up or move.. .

  My advice is to be passive agressive. Like ... "You know, I've been reading the Bible and feel that the Holy Spirit it touching my understanding and things are clearer now. All though the Witnesses have things to offer, I feel that God (Jehovah) is so much MORE than what the Witnesses explain him to be. I believe Jesus set the example with His concerned for everyone in every situation in life, and you know, I just can't get beyond the shunning of loved ones issue...that just doesn't seem Christ-like. so Bye-bye"
